Week 20 - February 1 - 5

No School - Monday, February 1- All day professional development for teachers

Math - Unit 4 math tests came home last week for most students. I was very proud of all of the students and how well they did. We are now starting Unit 5 in our Volume 2 math book. The Volume 1 book is coming home.

Reading- We are wrapping up our unit on Myths and Legends. We will be starting a unit on Historical Fiction. Your child should be reading an average of 30 minutes every night. In order to become a stronger reader (and all students can) they must be reading just right books.

Talent Show - The Talent Show will be held Friday, February 5 in the evening. There will be an encore presentation in school on Monday, February 8 at 2pm.

NAAPID - All parents are welcome to visit our school on Monday, February 8. There will be a lunch and speaker in the afternoon at Pattengill.

5th grade camp (take 2!) - We are starting to think about camp again! Just a reminder that camp is at Howell Nature Center March 9 - March 11. There is nothing you need to do if you had all paperwork turned in for our original date.

Science - We are collecting empty toilet paper rolls and empty paper towel rolls for our coming unit on the human body.  Please help us by sending in as many as you can by mid-February.  Your help is greatly appreciated. ~Ms. Birdsong

Winter SurvivalThe class has been broken up into smaller groups. They have worked together to plan what food they will take to cook over the fire. Please check with your child to find out what he or she has volunteered for. It is important that they be able to bring whatever food or items they are supposed to have. The field trip is Friday, January 22.

Donations - We are in need of tissues and cleaning wipes. If you could donate either of these items it would be greatly appreciated!

Writing - The students are working on writing persuasive pieces. Most of this work will take place in class but they may need to do some research outside of class.

Week 16 - January 4 - 8

Welcome Back!!
Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a safe and restful vacation. My time was filled with plenty of rest, reading, and time spent with family.

Social Studies - There was a problem with the Quizlet that was forwarded from Mr. Hatt. Don't worry! You will have time to study for this before the actual quiz. Sorry for any inconvenience or stress it may have caused.

Math - We will be continuing on with Unit 4. Much of the work has to do with decimals and coordinate grids. Your child will have homework most nights. There is also review or challenge work available at Khan Academy.

Winter Weather - Although we have little or no snow the cold is back! Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess.
