Compliments Day!!
We are a little late (according to some calendars) and early (according to others) but we are going to celebrate anyway! The students' homework is due one week from today. Their task is to write a compliment for each of their classmates. It can be a sentence or a paragraph, as long as it is sincere and meaningful. April 28 - May 2
Math - The Unit 8 math test (practice and actual) will be this week. Your child should also be practicing Xtramath on a daily basis. If your child is unable to do this at home, they will have time to work on it at lunch recess.
Special Visit - On Wednesday, April 28 we will have a representative from the city of Ann Arbor speak to our class in response to the letters that the students wrote. The conversation will focus on how the city prioritizes the plowing of streets in the winter time. Please feel free to join us.

Day of service - Reminder that this is Tuesday, April 22. Our class time is 10:30 - 11:25. We will be cleaning out the area around the Pattengill sign, picking up sticks, twigs, and tree limbs and sweeping up litter in the front of the building. Please feel free to join us during that time. It is supposed to be nice on Tuesday but cooler than Monday. Encourage your child to dress in layers.
Talent Show Tryouts - Thursday, April 24th. If your child wants to try out, forms must be returned by Tuesday, April 22.
Math - We are wrapping up Unit 8 soon. The practice test will be either Thursday or Friday. Your child will need to be able to add and subtract mixed numbers with like and unlike denominators, multiply fractions with a numerator of 1, and solve problems that have fractions and decimals.

Fifth grade instrumental concert is Monday, May 5 at 7pm (1pm during school hours)

Reminder! This is a short week. No school on Friday!
Math - We are continuing work on Unit 8. The students will be taking an end of unit test at the beginning of next week.
Earth Day 4/22/14 - We are still in need of volunteers for Earth Day. If you can donate time or gardening tools that would be great. This is what our class is scheduled to do from 10:30 - 11:25: Deadhead Perennials and Weed Around Pattengill Sign; Pick Up Litter/Tree Branches from Crestland to Circular Drive; Sweep Parking Lot Curb Across From A Wing
Spring Pictures and Yearbook pictures -This will be done on Thursday throughout the day. The new date is Thursday, May 1st.
International Night is Thursday, April 17 from 6:30 - 8. Please consider joining us for a tour through the building to see the work that classrooms have done to represent a country. We are representing Japan and have been working on making many paper cranes. There will be a fashion show, talent show, and food to enjoy in the cafeteria.
Talent Show Tryouts - Looking ahead, the tryouts are next Thursday throughout the day. Please be aware that everyone may not be chosen to be in the talent show. If your child wants to participate, please be sure that he or she is well prepared for the audition!
