Week 18: January 14 - 18

Winter Survival:  Our winter survival trip is this Friday, January 18! On Monday the class will go over what each student has agreed to bring for food and additional items to support his or her group. These lists went home last week so I'm hoping that you have already seen this. Please double check this list. All items should be brought in on Friday. If your child is ill or unable to attend on Friday for any reason, please make arrangements to get the supplies to school. This could be through another student or dropped off in the morning. We will leave around 9:30 and return around 2:30pm.

These are pictures from winter survival last year. It will give you an idea of what the area will look like.
NWEA Testing:
We will be taking the math and reading tests this week. Please help your child do his or her best by getting a good night's sleep and something healthy to eat in the morning.

Reading: We have started reading and studying historical fiction in class. Please help your child find the time to read for 20-30 minutes at home each night. Ask questions about what he or she is reading to find out if it is a "just right" book!

Science Fair - Students should be well underway with science fair projects. We should be getting project boards soon. The science fair is Wednesday, February 20. Boards and projects should be brought to school that morning. Students who need to work with their partner at school should make arrangements with me.  If this is a necessity, please ask your child if he or she has has made plans for that yet. Your child should also let me know is he or she needs help with their science fair project. I am happy to help them during lunch time.

Current Events: Most Fridays we watch CNN10 and learn about current events happening in the world around us. Very soon, all students will be required to find, read, and report on a current event of their choice. More information to come on this!
